Posted 30.10.13

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor, Cr Mark Jamieson will today sign the first official funding agreement for The Work Shop, a training and recruitment centre on Lend Lease's Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital construction site.

The Work Shop, due to open in mid-December, will provide a free drop-in service for onsite contractors to register their vacancies, and for jobseekers to register their interest, ultimately leading to employment for locals.

Council will sign the partnership agreement with The Horney Institute (THI), who led the strategic development of The Work Shop and will take responsibility for the delivery of the service and governance.

The Work Shop aims to directly provide 600 jobs for local long term unemployed, over the three years of construction. During construction 11,000 workers will be inducted onto site, with 1,800 of these workers on-site during peak activity between 2014 -2015.
